About the Author
John White was born in Liverpool, England, on March 5, 1924, and grew up in Manchester. After serving as a reconnaissance photographer in the Fleet Air Arms during World War II, he completed medical training at Manchester University. He later participated in a variety of short-term missions efforts (including Bible smuggling!) and capitalized on many opportunities to encourage Christians behind the Iron Curtain during the beginning of the Cold War.

On June 25, 1955, White married Laureate May O'Hara. From 1955 to 1964 he served as a medical missionary with New Tribes Mission. Later he was appointed associate general secretary of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students of Latin America.

White emigrated to Canada with his family in 1965 and later completed his residency in psychiatry in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He next filled the post of associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Manitoba and also served locally as pastor of Church of the Way.

He wrote 25 books as well as numerous articles and study guides. A much sought-after speaker, he lectured around the world at churches, conferences and leadership events. During his later life, White moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, helping to plant a Vineyard church there (Surrey Vineyard) and becoming involved in the larger Vineyard Christian Fellowship.

John White died in 2002, but his written ministry lives on, with over 1.5 million of his books in print.

Good, fun read

I think there are issues with the eBook that cause a lot of spelling errors which makes the book a bit annoying to read... But once you get past that it's a great story! I recommend this adventure book to anyone.

Any more beautiful series that are upliting like Anthropos and Narnia??????? Help me with this please.

I really love this book because not only is it a great suspenseful fantasy novel but it means so much to me when there are authors out there who also want to write stories that depict the Divine reaching out and comforting. This author depicts the Divine as the Changer and Ga'al throughout his series. Even through White is of a Christian background like C.S. Lewis and his intention is to create a Christlike allegory, I feel that people of all faiths can truly be touched by stories like Anthropos and Narnia. While the characters struggle, in both these series, they receive comfort and friendship from the Divine Beloved God in an Aspect that is reachable and very human. These two series have such a charm to them that makes you even fall in love with the Divine. If ever you are feeling down, the series of Anthropos and Narnia are wonderful reading. In the Sword Bearer, I like the part when John is crying and then the Changer tells him that he wants to keep his tears forever because his tears are important to Him. Even in times John doubts himself through his struggles in the battle and not knowing how to get along with others, the Changer is reaching out and laughing with him showing him that unconditional love.

Please help me. If anyone knows of anymore series out there that are like the Narnia and Anthropos series in which the Divine manifests in His Aspect of friendship and comfort as He does so beautifully in these series. I always enjoy series that are uplifting in this way and it's hard waiting until 2008 for the next Narnia movies to come out. Can anyone tell me some series that touches the heart and brings comfort and those warm fuzzy feelings of walking on air each time you finish the series?

Excellent/Emotional

All of G.A. McKevett's Savannah books are a wonderful treat to read and savor slowly. This book rated high on the emotional scale and I couldn't put it down. I hope that reviewers will NOT write too detailed of a description of the book in their reviews and spoil the whole ending of the book for everyone. All who read A Decadent Way to Die should enter in totally without a clue to the events in order to thoroughly experience what the book has to offer. This is wonderful series.

A wonderful mystery

This mystery brought me to tears.
It spoke to my heart.
How could a mystery accomplish this?
Easy. McKevett writes from her heart.
Her characters come to life for me.
Savannah and her friends add so much depth
to each story. The good,the bad, and the ugly.
As always,a murder takes place and someone
has to do the dirty work.
Savannah and Mike are hot on the trail.
Along the way, one of her friends is in need
of some help and advice.
If you have ever read any of the other
mysteries by McKevett, you will know
that when a friend needs help, Savannah pulls
out the big guns and doesn't stop till she finds
an answer. This book is the best one yet.
Tis a keeper for sure.
I am not a very good reviewer.
But, this book made a big imprint on my heart.
Hope is does the same for you.

Highly Entertaining!

This is the sixteenth book starring Private Investigator Savannah Reid, and readers will all be thinking as they close the cover on this one that there will hopefully be a seventeenth, eighteenth...does infinity ring a bell? For those living in a cave, Savannah is a plus-size detective and one of the funniest, smartest, most enjoyable characters that's offered in the world of cozy mysteries.

In this newest offering, Savannah is hired by the granddaughter of Helene Strauss, an eighty-year-old businesswoman and creator of the very popular Helene doll. Ms. Strauss is a shrewd woman who is immensely brash and as funny as Savannah, herself. There are some odd things happening to Helene in this book - suspicious events that seem to allude to the fact that Helene has been marked for death by a clever killer who's making it very difficult for Savannah to uncover.

When the case begins, Savannah doesn't exactly get any co-operation from the high and mighty Strauss family - most especially Helene, herself. Helene simply has that smart businesswoman persona that makes her an extremely hard person to please, even though she needs Savannah to find out why exactly she's being stalked. Savannah quickly discovers that there have been many stressful relationships within the Strauss family for years. Helene's niece, Ava, has worked her behind off and scratched and scraped her way into the management of the family's illustrious doll company, which makes a great deal of money. But Ava seems to be moving the company into a completely shabby realm. In fact, the newest Strauss doll in the famous Helene line is a sultry fashion doll that comes with an excessive sexy wardrobe and a brand new, almost pornographic figure (Seems that Barbie isn't the only one who looks good in a bathing suit). Helene is understandably upset at this new doll because she's always prided herself on elegance and class, and she is trying with all her might to stop production on this atrocity.

With the help of her friend Detective Dirk Coulter, Savannah soon finds out that Ava is not the only family member with a motive to get rid of Helene. In fact, there are quite a few that surround her who have their own eyes on the profitable business. And, boy, would they just love to inherit by any means, fair or foul. As Savannah begins to unravel the case, two of the important players end up dead in a jacuzzi, and she finds herself investigating every branch of the Strauss family tree.

This, as always, is a wonderfully fun read. But - as always - the best part of the whole story is our leading lady. Savannah is an intriguing and sassy heroine and offers readers a great time. Highly Recommended.

The utilities of alpha-aminophosphonates as peptide mimics, haptens of catalytic antibodies, enzyme inhibitors, inhibitors of cancers, tumours, viruses, antibiotics and pharmacologic agents are well documented. Alpha-Hydroxyalkanephosphonates are compounds of significant biological and medicinal applications. Dialkyl epoxyalkylphosphonates are of interest because of their use as intermediates in the synthesis of bioactive substances, and as modifiers of natural and synthetic polymers. Bisphosphonates are drugs that have been widely used in different bone diseases, and have recently been used successfully against many parasites. Poly(alkylene H-phosphonate)s and poly(alkylene phosphate)s are promising, biodegradable, water soluble, new polymer-carriers of drugs. Nucleoside H-phosphonates seem to be the most attractive candidates as starting materials in the chemical synthesis of DNA and RNA fragments. The 5’-hydrogen phosphonate-3’-azido-2’,3’-dideoxythimidine is one of the most significant anti-HIV prodrug, which is currently in clinical trials.

About the Author
Kolio Dimov Troev completed his undergraduate work at Higher Institute of Chemical Technology, Sofia; received his doctorate in the field of organophosphorus chemistry in 1974 from the Institute of Organic Chemistry, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences with Prof. Georgy Borissov; and was awarded the scientific degree “Doctor of Science” in 1985 from the Institute of Polymers. In 1988, he became Professor of Chemistry at the same Institute. He has been the founding head of the laboratory “Phosphorus-containing monomers and polymers” since 1989. His research interests are the areas of organophosphorus chemistry, especially esters of H-phosphonic acid; aminophosphonates; biodegradable, biocompatible phosphorus-containing polymers; polymer conjugates; drug delivery systems. He has been a visiting professor/lecturer in the USA (Marquette University, Tulane University), Japan (Tokyo Institute of Technology, University of Tokyo, Tohoku University, Tokyo University of Science), and Germany (Duesseldorf University). He is the author of more than 150 papers in this field published in the Phosphorus, Sulfur, Silicon and Related Elements, Heteroatom Chemistry, Journal of American Chemical Society, European Polymer Journal, Polymer, Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry, Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Macromolecular Rapid Communication, Polymer Degradation and Stability, Journal of Polymer Science, Part A: Polymer Chemistry, European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Amino Acids, Tetrahedron Letters, Macromolecules, and RSC Advances. He is also the author of two other Elsevier books, Chemistry and Application of H-phosphonates (2006) and Polyphosphoesters: Chemistry and Application (2012).
He was a director of the Institute of Polymers, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences from November 2003 to February 2012.
